Is Excavator clay / packed play sand + topsoil mix a Safe Substrate for Bearded Dragons?
Firmly packed several-inch-deep mix supports the natural digging and burrowing behaviour bearded dragons show, especially before brumation. Current understanding treats impaction as primarily a husbandry failure (wrong temperatures, dehydration, oversized prey) rather than simply the presence of loose substrate in a healthy adult. Not recommended for hatchlings.
