Gargoyle geckos were once considered among the rarest lizards in captivity

Before captive breeding programmes matured, gargoyle geckos were scarce and expensive in the pet trade. Decades of dedicated breeding have since turned them into one of the most commonly available New Caledonian geckos, which is also why captive-bred animals are so easy to source today.
